The first day begun with a hospitality snack offered by President Elect
candidate Ernie Rosas immediately preceding the Hospitality evening with a
theme “Let’s Get Physical.” The highlight of the evening was the symbolic
transfer of the 5K Walk/Run Olympic Torch from Remy Solarte, Symbolic
Runner for the NCR and received by the SCR Symbolic Runner, Merlita
Velasquez. After dinner, the Battle of the Talents begun! The top two
winners will represent the NCR at the national convention in July. And the
winners were: PNA Michigan - first place, PNA Indiana - second place. Sonia
Tamanut and Babette Orlich were wonderful emcees.
Empower to Excel – Beyond Success offered a variety of topics the next day.
Contact hours were awarded to successful attendees. Leadership topics
were delivered by PNAA President May Mayor who spoke on PNAA and Its
Journey to Excellence in leadership, Session I. Session II, PNAA Executive
Director Remy Solarte talked about the first PNAA Balik-Turo in the
Philippines. Emotional Wellness was given by Shaun McMahon. Spiritual
Wellness by Mariann McCormally. Message therapy was given by Debi Fesi.
Cory Sorio, Chair of the Education committee presented Evidence-Based
Practice Lessons from the Filipino Community Pedometer Program. PNAA
Officers present included President May Mayor, ED-Remy Solarte, VP-Ernie
Rosas, Board Member-Irma Labre, Treasurer-Merlita Velasquez and NCR-
RLO.
Chapter reports followed thereafter and all presidents gave their reports in
power point. VP Ernie Rosas presented the 5K Run activities. Chapter
Presidents are: Remy de la Cruz-Illinois, Ellen Dioso-Michigan, Beth Rosas-
Greater Kansas City (host), Emily Tabayoyong-Greater St. Louis, Bessie
Schiroky-Ohio, Mattie Upano-Indiana and Minnie Parbs-Wisconsin. The first
eight attendees from Wisconsin included Minnie Parbs, Zenaida Edralin, Maria
Salomon Yumang, Mercy Violanda, Sarah Austria, Rowena Poticar, Gem
Cubos, and Rosedita Parolanan.
In the evening, the Black and White Masquerade Ball was stunning with
attendees elegantly dressed. The new set of PNAGKC Officers 2008-2010
led by Leila Busch were inducted into office by PNAA President Rosario May
Mayor. PNA Wisconsin was formally installed as official member of PNA
America. Eight first time chapter attendees witnessed their installation. The
NCR Leadership Awards was given by each chapter to their deserving
member, a tradition originated by PNAM at the 8th regional conference. The
host chapter rendered a ‘Phantom of the Nursing Opera’ entertainment that
wowed the audience for their awesome talented members.
It is hard to say goodbye after an awesome evening of fun. On Sunday, we
went to Mass followed by a luncheon courtesy of the host. This was chaired
by President Elect Leila Busch. Good food, good time, excellent learning and
entertainment! What else could we ask for?
Let’s meet again in Ohio for the 10th PNAA NCR conference on April
24-25, 2009! Mark your calendar!
